Are the problems we face actually problems of some people wanting to control other people's lives?

Actually, even though I mostly oppose the new president, I agree with him when he says that the problems we face are not left-wing or right-wing problems. I believe that the problems we face are caused by people on both sides who want to control other people. They are caused by the George W. Bushes, John McCains, and Pat Robertsons of the world, but are also caused by the Al Gores, Bill Clintons, and Barack Obamas of the world.

Of course, I reject the notion that unity is desirable, if that unity amounts to surrendering and simply letting authoritarians of some variety or another control people (which is why I'm scared that today's America is beginning to feel much like America did after 9/11 when the people recklessly allowed Congress to pass legislation creating a police state and start a war of genocide in Iraq). I have no problem with divisiveness if that divisiveness is between those who respect the natural rights of others and those who want to control others (regardless of how ';noble'; their purposes may be).

History shows that leaders who preach unity for the sake of unity often end up going down in history as tyrants. Compromising with people who desire to control others weakens the opposition to their evil policies and allows those people to succeed in their attempts to oppress others.

Is it not true that extremism in defense of liberty is a virtue and that moderation in pursuit of justice is a vice? Why are so many Americans unwilling to consistently oppose the politicians in both parties who desire to control people? Are the problems we face actually problems of some people wanting to control other people's lives?
In the end, it comes to the question of the polls: in a democratic republic, the majority holds the power.

Yet that majority can change, it does change continuously.

Wanting to control other people is a universal characteristic. It's the most explicit form of power, the power to influence people's lives, to force your views and morals upon them, etc.

No one is free from that. From the parents who try to impose their values on their children to the neighbors' association which wishes to impose some standards on all.

We just happen to notice more in the case of politicians.

As for ';liberty'; and ';justice,'; some of the worst genocides and massacres have been perpetrated in their name. The idea of what liberty and justice varies from person to person. Your liberty may be my nightmare, your justice may be my suffering. Are the problems we face actually problems of some people wanting to control other people's lives?
It's what all politicians do...
