Do children get puffy face or become fat, by using the brown inhaler for the control of their asthma?

My child of almost of 7 years has been puffing the brown inhaler for 3 years. she takes Pulmicort 50 mg twice a day, more if she's having a cough. I do wonder if she may get a puffy face or become fat in the future because of the amount of steroids. My Doctor says, no, but a friend of mine swears that her daughter got full moon face by using the steroids for control of asthma. Thanks for your answer. Big regard.Do children get puffy face or become fat, by using the brown inhaler for the control of their asthma?
No, It helps them clear there lungs. Why would you think this?Do children get puffy face or become fat, by using the brown inhaler for the control of their asthma?
The doctor is right. Pulmicort is not going to make your daughter fat or give her a moon-face. Now if she were on Prednisone, daily, with a dosage of 40-60mgs....THEN she would get a moon face and gain weight. But not from that inhaler. Here is info from the Physician's Desk Reference online:

I'm a nurse. Yes they can. They can even have the swollen look to them due to the steroids. Also steroids isn't good for long term. Seek another doctor's opinion. With steroids people can develop large holes in their bones. This isn't a good thing to stay on for long term. Your child is still growing and the future results can be devastating.
';Getting fat'; or having a ';puffy face'; are indeed part of the side effects of using steroids which are used as asthma treatment. Other side effects include having acne and osteoporosis. Usually the side effects appear after long term use of the steroid and has more pronounced effects when systemic steroids are used. There are less side effects from inhaled steroids, as they pass directly to the respiratory system and not interfere with other body systems. Oral steroids are usually prescribed in more severe forms of asthma where attacks can be life-threatening. Steroids are prescribed by doctors for the control of asthma, and its dosage should be tapered by your doctor once there is improvement of asthma. You need not worry, just ask your doctor. FWIW I put on 40lbs in 2 months using prednisone
My nephew has to use an inhaler he has used it for several yrs and yes it will give you a puffy face and make you gain weight. Anything that has steroids in it will make you gain weight. His Dr. told his mom in advanced this would happen.
Steroids can definitely cause a puffy face. Also, a side effect of Pulmicort is coughing. So, is this medicine helping or not. You have to weigh the pros and cons and to do this you have to be well informed. Go to your search bar and type in ';side effects of long term use of pulmicort';, ';alternative treatments for asthma';, ';puffy face from steroids';, ';asthma in young children'; and ';children outgrowing asthma';. Read as much as you can so can make well informed choices in regards to your childs life!

Good Luck!
