When I get bored, anxious or nervous I tend to pick at my face. What can I do to gain self control?

Bored..Anxious..Nervous..

These are three charactaristics which can be handled with Maturity. Look yourself as another person when you are any of these...If you were a observer to another person who picks his face when he is bored or nervous or anxious, How Would You Advise Him Not To Be So Upset and How Would You Want That Person to React Differently? If you just play this little mind game when you are upset with life, you will probably find out a way to handle life with moer maturity.

You only need to get out of your little box and view yourself into a big picture. Respect yourself for being a friend to yourself. And THAT will probably save you from reacting so negetively to your situations.

Your habit is neither a casual one and nor is it a temporary habit. This can go a lot to disturb your behaviour in future and even in public.

so, instead of finding a solution for it outside, find it within yourself. You will probably find a New YOU who knows how to handle you in these situations. AND THAT IS WHAT YOU NEED, BABY!! Care for yourself !! Its the best thing u can do for yourself !!!When I get bored, anxious or nervous I tend to pick at my face. What can I do to gain self control?
I don't know about self control, but I get acrylic nails. They are not nearly as sharp as real nails and eliminate the scabs and scars. I still try to pick, but am unable to do any damage to myself because of the nails. I tried twice in the past year to take them off and see if I had broken the habbit, but unfortunately not. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. When I get bored, anxious or nervous I tend to pick at my face. What can I do to gain self control?
The only way to get to the root of any addiction is via professional counselling, and yes, any compulsive behavior can be considered an addiction of sorts.

In the interim, your best bet is to try developing a different (and safer) addiction for the same purpose. Something like picking the lint off old clothes or tearing apart chunks of styrefoam bit by bit. Such should only be intended as a temporary addiction until you've managed to identify what's causing your need for any addiction and resolved the inner conflicts associated with the cause.
Think about the long-term effects. I did this constantly in my teens %26amp; I wish I hadn't..my skin looks so bad now! I have a lot of deep scars that are impossible to hide, my skin looks 20 years older than it should. I'm only 31, but my skin looks like a 50 year olds!:( That's the one thing I would change if I could, but unfortunately I'm stuck with it.

When you feel the urge, do something else with your hands. Try putting an elastic band around your wrist,, %26amp; snap it every time you start to pick. Try holding onto something to keep your hands busy, like a stress ball or something.

I love the money jar idea, that sounds like it would work! Wish somebody gave me that advice years ago! Good luck!
have one of your best friends remind you every time you do that if you do it without knowing. if you are doing it knowingly just out of stress, punish yourself everytime you do it, if you do it like lots of times during a day. i used to bite my nails, but i couldnt quit it until i got my braces x_X
Sit on your hands. Or, if you are a girl, paint your nails a pretty color. The color will catch your eye and you'll stop. I had the same problem...until I started painting my nails then I was thinking...I don't want them to get ruined with face dirt...and I don't want my face to look nasty. That helped me.
put petroleum jelly on your fingers. the sensation of that stuff on your face is uncomfortable and should snap you out of the habit.

okay, i realize that this is not a logical answer...
Umm..cut your nails REALLY short and then just every time you do, put 5 bucks away in a jar and then when you go a week without have done it, you can give yourself back the money!
Learn to do something else with your hands. I recommend carrying around something that you can twirl around, like a pen or a poker chip. Something to keep your hands busy other than your face...
well it takes 24 days to end a bad habbit. just try not to touch your face and when u realize u are touching it take your hand away and then try that for a while. hopw it works!
Where gloves. It is the same technique people use to prevent biting their nails it would also work in your attempt to stop picking at your face. Hope that helps.
Watch less tv.
You need to just think about it and not touch your face. Gain discipline.
intertwine your fingers
Try Handcuffs
find a different distraction.

run around naked singing superfreak at the top of your lungs, hasent failed me yet (:
